Following on from my post about ‘Typefaces on book copyright pages, check out this recent Chicago Manual of Style (CMOS) FAQ titled ‘Citation, Documentation of Sources’:
Q. Do typefaces or fonts used in a book or other document need to be credited? CMOS 4.106 makes me think they should, but maybe I misunderstood something.
Read the FAQ page for the full answer, but the tl;dr is that, no, in most cases font licences don’t require you to credit them in your publications.
Like I said in my earlier post, I do appreciate it when publishers share which typeface(s) they’ve used in their publications – like the University of Chicago Press folks do on the colophon page of the CMOS Online website.
