Site FAQ

Here lie the questions most frequently asked concerning this site.

Q. Why a website?
A. So that we'd have an answer to people when we'd tell them that Nadia writes fiction and poetry and that Ameel is a musician who writes a short story every now and then and they asked: "O Rly?" Now we can reply: "Ya Rly! Check out his/her/their/our latest work on their/our website!"

We also wanted a place to talk, vent, give our opinions, share things, publish things, tell people about our favourite places on the Internet, highlight the work of writers and other artists that we think everyone should know about...and so on. Basically, we wanted a website! :)

Q. Isn't, like, making a website a really geeky thing to do?
A. No. That might have been the case ten years ago. Now, if you think that, you're the odd one out :) These days you need at least one e-mail address; a Facebook/Orkut/MySpace/Friendster/Blogger etc. page; and/or a website to even exist. And since we're that part of the minority that has made its own from-scratch website, we are not only (Internet-wise) cool, we're really living it up!

Q. Why insanityWORKS? And why is it .org?
A. Because insanity does work...well, some of the time anyway :) Actually, "insanity works" is explanatory phrase that Nadia once wrote in an e-mail to Ameel. The two of us liked the phrase a great deal and picked it from a long list of other off-beat, yet appropriate potential names that we'd come up with when we were naming this site. And it's dot-org because the bastards at buythisdomain.com are holding insanityworks.com and insanityworks.net hostage.

Q. What's with the [at] things in all the e-mail addresses you've listed on the site?
A. The [at] things in the e-mail addresses listed on this site are in there so that these addresses don't get picked (harvested) up by spambots -- automatic programmes designed to search the Internet for e-mail addresses listed on websites. You will see this address-presentation format (called address munging) being used increasingly on the Internet.

Q. Who designed the site?
A. The current design is a combined Ameel-Nadia effort, though it does build on Ameel's original version.

Ameel has been making websites since 1996. People who have seen Ameel's current and previous work will know that he is an advocate of simple (almost minimalistic), elegant, quick-to-load, and easy-to-navigate websites and will recognize this as one of them (though with more colour thrown in). People who didn't know that will have to take Ameel's word for it. [Ameel's word is "sofa"]. Nadia has been working on websites since 2002. And even though she is known primarily for content generation and publishing, she has considerable experience in site design and content strategy.

Q. How was this site made?
A. This site was made using Macromedia Dreamweaver and JASC Paint Shop Pro (though now it's Corel Paint Shop Pro).
