Random, Interesting Stuff

Here's some random, interesting stuff.

The nitpicker's difference between 'error' and 'mistake':
You make an error when you do something wrong but you don't know that it was wrong (e.g. you don't know how to spell my name so you spell it 'Amil'). You make a mistake when you do something wrong, but you know it's wrong (e.g. you know my name is spelt 'Ameel' but you still write 'Amil', maybe because you were in a rush or were confused). For the most part, however, 'error' and 'mistake' are used interchangably.

The nitpicker's difference between a curriculum vitae (CV) and a resume: A curriculum vitae (Latin for "course of life") is a longer (more than two pages), more descriptive summary of your career/research/life while a resume is a shorter (one to two pages), more summarized version of the same thing. Often CVs are used when applying for research/academic positions while resumes are used for corporate/business positions. However, you can make your life much easier by calling them one page resumes and comprehensive resumes instead :)

The serial comma: I use serial commas (the Oxford comma) in my writing. Here's what Wikipedia has to say about them.
